Wally Dallenbach Sr. (born December 12, 1936 and left us April 29, 2024) is a former Indy car driver from East Brunswick Township, New Jersey, USA.[1] He drove in 180 Indy Car races between 1965 and 1979, winning five times.
Dallenbach nearly won the 1975 Indianapolis 500, dueling with A. J. Foyt for many laps. He led for half of the race,

Dallenbach nearly won the 1975 Indianapolis 500, dueling with A. J. Foyt for many laps. He led for half of the race, but burned a piston on lap 162, twelve laps before the race was called due to rain. Bobby Unser won the race, which was halted at lap 174 (435 miles). He joined CART as competition director in 1980 and became chief steward of the sport in 1981, a position he held until 2004. Under his tenure, he improved the safety program in CART.
He also established nondenominational church services for drivers and their families. Dallenbach has been inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame, due to his exploits at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, and the New Jersey Sports Hall of Fame. Dallenbach was also voted into the American Motorcyclist Association Motorcycle Hall of Fame, for his work as founder and president of the Colorado 500 Invitational charity motorcycle rides.
Dallenbach was voted into the Colorado Motorsports Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America on March 17, 2020, IMS & Pikes Peak Hill Climb Hall of Fame in 2022. Wally Sr. has a book out covering his experience. https://racemaker.com/catalog/wally-dallenbach/

Largely retired from full-time driving, Dallenbach was a race commentator for NBC Sports and Turner Sports. His primary responsibilities are for TNT's NASCAR coverage, a position he had held since 2001, and NBC Sports Network's IndyCar Series coverage, which he has been a part of since NBC was bought by Comcast in 2010 until 2014. Dallenbach worked with Adam Alexander and Kyle Petty on TNT and with Leigh Diffey and Jon Beekhuis on NBC Sports Network. In 2015 Dallenbach joined Fox NASCAR on NASCAR Race Hub.
Today Wally runs in the Trans Am series with the Ultimate Headers team which is owned by John and Debbie Cloud.
Paul Dallenbach has been driving in commercials and feature films since 1992. With a background in road racing, he has over 25 professional wins and a 2nd place finish at the 24 Hours of Daytona. He won the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb six times and set the overall record in 1993. He also tried his hand in rally racing earning wins

He won the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb six times and set the overall record in 1993. He also tried his hand in rally racing earning wins at the Alcan 5000 Winter Rally three times. Additionally, he was an instructor at ESI anti-terrorism school for five years teaching Navy Seals, bodyguards and law enforcement defensive driving. He also spent 12 years instructing at the Mid-Ohio School of High Performance.
